January 26-28, 2015 - Phoenix Open Annexus Pro Am906 views“My 9 year old son, Luke (above) followed Ben the entire day today for the Waste Management Open (he was THE ONLY KID who followed him the entire day – Ben was so gracious and kind. He made it a ‘live-over’ day for us both. A day so good – you wanna live it over again. He signed a bunch of things, took photos with us and even gave Luke, my son one of this custom made golf club protectors.
“Ben was so incredibly awesome to ALL his fans that day. He signed and posed and signed and posed. I feel so blessed to have that memory. We love the Steelers. My son is so funny to watch the game with. Knows the plays, stats etc. Ben will remember him from that day – they joked a lot. Ben asked him to take a shot for him that he had made and it landed way off course….then later on the 18th, he did the same thing and my son was like ‘hey, you want me to take this shot for you’ – everyone laughed. Ben was like, ‘Hey it’s you! I asked you to take a harder shot for me earlier…and you should have!’.†– Cherie Hannon-Hoover.

September 18, 2015 - Sami Wilhite 1087 viewsSami Wilhite makes another appearance on Ben’s site – Sami’s first appearance was on July 23, 2012 when we shared her photo with Ben for our training camp info post. She was back again in December of 2013 for a Steeler Nation post, and more recently, you may remember the birthday shout-out we did for her in April of this year (which included a special email from Ben when he saw it on his website).
Well, she is back with a fun story and some more great photos to share with us:
“The picture I sent you of me and Ben was from training camp in August. I was able to get his attention with the picture collage that you made for me and I was able to get him to sign it. Ben saw it and I said, “Thank you for the birthday email,†and he said, “That was you?!†and he signed the collage I had enlarged. I then asked him for his arm band and he actually gave it to me.
My dad and I made his Findlay helmet and I was able to get Ben to sign that too.
We now have 10 full size “Ben†helmets: His throwback yellow, two Miami Redhawks, Ben’s Pro Bowl, Super Bowl 40 & 43, “The Renegades†from Batman movie, his rookie helmet, and the Speed helmet Ben is wearing now.
But the coolest thing was getting my collage signed that you made me, and also the Miami helmet we made!†– Sami

February 23, 2015: A "Thank you" all the way from Cheyenne453 viewsFire Chief John McDougall, Francis E. (FE) Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne Wyoming, told us back in January that MSgt Joel Harr is “the biggest Pittsburgh Steelers fan I know (and I know lots!),†and was set to retire in February as an active duty member of the US Air Force after 20 years of service. Chief McDougall was searching for a suggestion “on how we can make Joel’s retirement very special.â€
More from Chief McDougall:
“Joel grew up in a small town in West Virginia and is an avid fan of the Steelers. I was hoping to make his retirement on February 20th very special. Joel has a family; his wife Karen, sons Braden and Jack, and daughter Evelyn. Karen is an active Duty MSgt as well, and is as much of a fan of the Steelers as Joel is since she grew up in PA. My goal is simple, I want to make Joel’s retirement after 20 years of dedicated and extraordinary service to our great country a day he’ll long remember.â€
Presenting him with a game-worn, autographed Steelers Salute to Service 39THIRTY cap (with the camoflage bill) from Ben sounded like the perfect gift – the players wore those caps during the NFL’s Salute to Service month in November.
Chief McDougall agreed…and when the big day arrived, wanted to share the photos of MSgt Harr’s retirement celebration with us.
